Memorial Hospital and Medicity Announce
Completed Contract for Physician Portal

Printable Version

Belleville, IL, and Salt Lake City, UT, May 10, 2007—Memorial Hospital, a 313-bed acute care hospital in Belleville, Illinois, and Medicity, Inc., a Salt Lake City-based clinical software company, today announced they have completed a contract for the implementation of Medicity’s MediTrust interoperability platform. The platform will stage patient information from hospital systems—MEDITECH HIS, PACS, EKGs, and document images—in its patient-centric, electronic health record for distribution to the practices of its Medical Staff. The Platform includes Medicity’s ProAccess suite which offers physicians options for electronic access to patient data, including web, fax and dedicated printer. Access of clinical data through handheld devices and integration with office EMRs via the Medicity EMR Gateway are components slated for later phases of the project. Patient information will be accessible from any Internet-enabled location while office staff will also be able manage incoming patient results to their office printers and fax machines. Security features and audit capability protect patient privacy as data moves to users.

Memorial selected Medicity’s solution for its comprehensive vision and its support for emerging industry requirements such as EMR adoption and the complexities of community data exchanges. The platform will allow Memorial Hospital to meet its objectives today and in the future.

Memorial’s primary objective in this project is to create efficiencies for its physicians and their practices. Medicity’s Clinical Integration Platform streamlines physician workflow in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Electronic applications like e-signature, and lab-result trending give physicians new convenience and effectiveness.

Providing around-the-clock access to patient clinical information is critical for patients and the providers that serve them. A data staging architecture serves as a down-time backup for Memorial Hospital’s inpatient systems and isolates those systems from the performance demands and risks of users outside the hospital. The interoperability platform will “future proof” the hospital against new requests for integration with systems external to the organization, like a community health information exchange or payer systems requiring new electronic reporting requirements.
