Medicity Announces Licensing Agreement with LabCorp

Printable Version

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, Sept. 26, 2005 - Medicity, a leading developer of clinical information software infrastructure, announced today a multi-year exclusive licensing agreement with Laboratory Corporation of America® Holdings (LabCorp®) (NYSE:LH). “This agreement is the culmination of five years of escalating activity between LabCorp and Medicity. It provides them with a branded, browser-based ordering and resulting application under the eLabCorp® trade name, designed to allow providers to manage lab orders and results from any internet-connected computer,” explains Kipp Lassetter, MD, Medicity CEO and Chairman. “But, perhaps more importantly, the underlying technology, the Medicity DataStage®, gives LabCorp an infrastructure for enabling a host of new connectivity initiatives, all aimed at improving their information services to customers.”

Medicity’s DataStage includes a Master Patient Index that restructures LabCorp data into a longitudinal, patient-centric electronic health record. The DataStage also facilitates the acquisition of electronic data like patient demographics from practice management systems, and the storage, transformation, and distribution of all kinds of clinical results, including image-based reports. This prepares them for rapid integration with all of their constituents, including physician practices, community clinics, hospitals, payers, government agencies, and even RHIO’s.

“With the rapid adoption of physician EMR applications and the momentum toward data sharing initiatives in care communities, large healthcare organizations like LabCorp need a more flexible architecture for creating connections with disparate clinical systems. Medicity is a clinical integration leader solving these complex healthcare industry problems,” explains Lassetter. “While other labs in the market offer proprietary EMR applications, this agreement allows LabCorp to improve the speed and quality of integration with all EMR vendors, creating a less disruptive partnership between LabCorp/Medicity, the physician and the physician's chosen EMR company.”

“LabCorp is a particularly strategic client for us,” he emphasizes, “because they have, arguably, the largest national footprint of lab test data, a critical source of patient information that influences care decisions.”
