Rollout of Wheeling Hospital Physician Portal

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, April 1, 2005 - Medicity Inc. announced the successful first phase roll-out of its physician portal at Wheeling Hospital. “The roll-out of a new physician portal puts Wheeling on the forefront of online physician services,” says Dr. Dennis R. Niess, Wheeling Hospital’s Clinical Administrator. According to Carol Owen, Medicity Vice President, “Wheeling has taken a real leadership position with this project. The entire project team has worked together in the specifications and implementation decisions associated with the portal, a significant benefit for their medical staff who will use the final solution.”

Under the supervision of Dr. Niess, the hospital has now trained over 100 physicians. “We have been tracking physician activity,” he says, “and at least 50 physicians are logging into the portal daily. These are extremely encouraging results! We have been gratified by the initial comments of our admitting staff.”

Medicity’s ProAccess Clinical Application Suite gives Wheeling physicians secure web access to aggregated clinical data. Initially, ProAccess has interfaced to six key applications: ADT, lab, radiology, pharmacy, transcription, general orders, and notes. In a succeeding phase the hospital will add interfaces into the respiratory and PACS systems, then the ability for physicians to digitally sign electronic documents. Later they plan to enhance their portal with an electronic ordering application that will give physicians one interface from which to enter outpatient orders which will then be transmitted into the appropriate system through a systems interface.

The project was launched in 2003, after doctors requested internet access to all important sources of clinical data. The hospital’s administration responded quickly to its physicians’ concerns and identified a solution from Medicity that would satisfy the need for a comprehensive patient view.

About Medicity
Medicity Inc. creates clinical physician portals and clinical data staging environments for healthcare organizations whose physicians need access to aggregated patient information from disparate systems. The ProAccess DataStage makes it possible for large provider organizations to support a 360-degree patient view during care decisions and reporting for disease management, pay-for-performance, utilization analysis, and other informatics initiatives. Medicity serves such large customers as Laboratory Corporation of America (LabCorp), Unilab, IASIS Healthcare, Daughters of Charity Health Systems, and Catholic Healthcare West.
